Christy Moore has sent up a personal message for Eamonn McCann and his Assemble Campaign:

"I have known Eamonn McCann and have stood with him in many campaigns since 1969. He has always stood for people before profit. I wish him every success in the election on May 5th, and hope I might also remark that I sang with him in the Rialto one night which is another reason why I think he should be in tThe Assembly" – Christy Moore

Statement from Eamonn McCann:

"Foyle could be set to rock Northern Ireland politics.

"People are fed up with the main parties. They don't want more of the same. The shift towards People Before Profit has gained momentum. We are now confident that there is a seat there for us to win.

"The election in Foyle will be of historic significance if People Before Profit wins a seat.

"We will be fighting every inch of the way until the polls close.  We are urging every voter who wants positive change to give us their number one before transferring to other candidates.

"For decades, if not centuries, Derry has given the lead to the rest of the North. We can point the way forward again on Thursday by breaking from the old parties which have taken the people for granted for far too long and voting for People Before Profit.

Davy McAuley with Eamonn McCann
People Before Profit Waterside candidate Davy McAuley yesterday hit out at a “culture of complacency” in Derry city council.

He was commenting on the failure of the city authorities to clear a site on a green area in Gobnascale where builder’s debris including rolls of razor wire has lain for weeks.

People Before Profit will be taking part in the May Day Rally and March in Derry tomorrow, Saturday 30th April 2011. We call on everyone to join us.

Meet in the People Before Profit Office in Shipquay Place beside Cafe Del Mundo at 12.30. The rally will then begin outside the front of the office in Guildhall Square at 1pm.

Here is the text of the May Day leaflet we will be distributing at the Rally:

A fighting chance to reject the cuts agenda

Eamonn McCann could win an Assembly seat

Eamonn McCann has a very realistic chance of winning a seat in the Assembly on 5 May, provided that everyone who wants to challenge the Westminster and Stormont cuts gives him their number 1 vote.
