We believe that this is the best chance that Eamonn McCann and the Left in general has ever had in an election in the North.
Ten years ago McCann was getting about 2% of the vote; this increased to around 5% five years ago; and last year he got 7.8% in the Westminister election.
Currently the UU hold one Assembly seat for Foyle, Sinn Fein hold two, and the SDLP hold three.
Because of the recent problems within the SDLP, however, most people now believe that their hold over that third seat is now weak. Sinn Fein are certainly targetting the seat, but we believe that Eamonn has a great chance of taking it - though every vote will count.
